Take Stock in Children (TSIC) held a luncheon at RIVEROAK Technical College on September 6, inducting students into TSIC and introducing mentors to their students for the 2016-2017 school year.
The students who were inducted are: Azucena Gonzalez, Towonna Jordan, Erionna Williams, Paola Castillo, Jai'Leya Sobah, Jeffery Brown, and Samuel Creasy.
TSIC inducts students as freshmen, provides them with a mentor and a college success coach for four years which helps monitor and guide the students on issues such as grades, attendance, and behavior throughout their high school years. Upon graduation from high school, the student in TSIC will be given either a two or four year college scholarship within the state of Florida.
Executive Director of TSIC, Katherine Haney, says, “The new students are very excited to be in the program and eager to begin relationships with their new mentors. Throughout the next few years, their mentors will help them set educational and career goals for themselves, and support them in making wise decisions. I could not be happier about the promising group of students we inducted this year.”
Suwannee County School District Board Member, Julie Ulmer, is looking forward to another year with TSIC. Ulmer says, "I am excited to have met my new Take Stock student at the luncheon to kick off this school year. She is an amazing freshman, and I am going to enjoy meeting with her for the next 4 years. It has been a privilege for me to mentor 4 different students over the last 13 years and watch them succeed in high school and beyond. Take Stock in Children is a wonderful program that has made a difference in the lives of so many students."
