Suwannee Middle School (SMS) student Kierstin Eplin recently had her artwork selected to be hung in the Florida Legislative Branch at the Florida Capitol in Tallahassee during the spring legislative session.

The Art in the Capitol Competition is a statewide visual arts competition that requires each school district to hold an annual art competition for all students in grades six through eight attending public schools, private schools and home schools in Florida.  The winning selection from each district will be displayed at the Florida Legislative Branch at the Florida Capitol in Tallahassee during the spring legislative session.

Eplin says she has been drawing since she could walk. Eplin drew inspiration for this artwork from her mom. Eplin says, “I drew this piece of artwork because it reminded me of my mom.  She was free and colorful.” Upon hearing the news her artwork had been selected, Eplin says, “Surprise! I couldn't believe that I had been selected.”

SMS Art Teacher Melissa Cameron says, “I was thrilled to hear that Kiersten's piece had been chosen to represent Suwannee County.  She squealed in delight when I told her, and even teared up when she hugged me.  I am very proud of her - she's a terrific art student!”
