State of Florida Representative, Elizabeth Porter, and Vice President of Education and Strategic Partnerships of Learning.com, Dr. Clifford Green, came to Suwannee Intermediate School (SIS) on September 23 to recognize SIS students for their work within the digital classroom.

According to STEM Teacher Support Colleague, Keith Stavig, Learning.com is a software program that the Suwannee County School District uses to help students learn digital literacy and keyboarding skills. Many schools across the nation are using Learning.com, but according to Dr. Green, most SIS students use this program, which is uncommon at most schools.

Students at SIS have been using Learning.com since November 2014. The students come to digital literacy classes with SIS Media Specialist, Sandra Winburn, approximately once every other week and work on keyboarding, computer fundamentals, word processing and other digital literacy skills. This year they will also be working on coding. Winburn says, “The students are gaining 21st century skills while having fun with Learning.com. The lessons are interactive and engaging.”
