The PAL/Title I Program held its recognition ceremony in the Douglas Center gym on July 27.

The PAL/Title I Program lasted seven weeks. During this time, the goal of the instructors was to show growth on the students’ i-Ready scores. Students in the program showed an overall growth of 575 points in math and over 300 points in reading. 50 percent of the students who were actively attending the program grew one grade level.

School Resource Officer Lee Willis welcomed family and friends who attended and mentioned how proud he was of the students. Willis encouraged students to continue their success once school begins and become leaders in the classroom.

School Improvement/Title I Coordinator Kecia Robinson and PAL/Title I teacher MJ Kinard handed out certificates and t-shirts to the students. Students also received recognition for their i-Ready achievements.

i-Ready combines a valid and reliable growth measure and individualized instruction in an online program. i-Ready provides rigorous, on-grade level instruction and additional downloadable lessons to help met individual student’s goals.

Kinard said that students attitude towards i-Ready and academics changed to a more positive and consistent approach. Kinard went on to say the average growth for a year-long student should be 18-21 points and some of the students in the PAL/Title I program improved as much as 80 points. “Those achievements will lead to higher FSA scores, given that i-Ready is an indicator of FSA testing success.”
