Suwannee High School (SHS) football players, Cameron Potter, Darious Herring, and Cody Daniel, spent time on August 26 in classrooms reading to students at Suwannee Primary School (SPS).
The three players went to multiple classrooms and read stories to the children while answering questions and posing for pictures.
SPS teacher, Mrs. Lois, says, “What a great experience for the children. We have Bulldog pride here at SPS, and we are glad to have the players come read to the kids.”
The kids enjoyed their time with the players, waving at them in the hallways and asking them questions once the players were finished reading their book. Potter says, “It is an inspirational moment. You have heard in the past to give back to the kids and to be a part of this is very special.”
Herring is accustomed to entertaining an audience on Friday nights, but reading to 50 kindergarteners and first graders is a different ball game. “It is surreal to see. Having the kids in front of you is definitely different than playing football on Friday nights,” says Herring.
SPS Principal, Marsha Tedder, says, “It was so exciting to watch the little faces light up as the SHS football players read to our students. The players encouraged our students to be ‘A’ students. It was also exciting to see the connection between the students and players. Now our students have a role model to watch on the field on Friday nights. SPS loves the Bulldogs.”
