Reproductive Health and Disease Education

According to the State Statute 1003.42 (3), any student whose parent makes a written request to the school principal shall be exempted from the teaching of reproductive health or any disease, including HIV/Aids, its symptoms, development, and treatment.

A student so exempted may not be penalized by reason of that exemption. Course descriptions for comprehensive health education shall not interfere with the local determination of appropriate curriculum which reflects local values and concerns.

Each school district shall, on the district’s homepage, notify parents of this right and process to request an exemption. The home page must include a link for a student’s parent to access and review the instructional materials, as defined in s. 1006.29(2), used to teach the curriculum.

Any parent choosing to exempt their child out of instruction must write a letter to the school principal requesting that the student be excused from the lessons, or return the signed EXEMPTION form to the school.

All materials are available for review at each individual school upon request and on the District website (coming soon). To see a list of instructional materials used for each course click below.
